This is the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) mandated Texas State & Federal Law Update #3189 (TCOLE) online training course for Texas Peace Officers. This 89th Legislative Update Course provides 6 hours of TCOLE continuing education credit. Designed to meet the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement’s requirements, this course delivers a comprehensive review of key legislative changes from the 89th Texas Legislature as well as significant U.S. Supreme Court and 5th Circuit Court of Appeals decisions that directly impact law enforcement practice. In addition to state-level statutory updates, the course highlights two critical decisions from the 6th and 7th U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeals, providing officers with a broader understanding of national case law trends. Participants will also examine the latest TCOLE Rule changes, ensuring compliance with evolving professional standards. Course content is presented through a structured review of statutes, policy changes, and case law applications affecting law enforcement officers across Texas. For each major case discussed, OSS provides access to the full court opinion for download and future reference, allowing students to deepen their understanding beyond the classroom. Key Topics Include: . Legislative updates affecting the Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure, Health & Safety Code, and Transportation Code .
