Overview
This is the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) mandated Spanish for Law Enforcement (Intermediate) Distance #2110 (course equivalent to Spanish for Law Enforcement #2109) online training course offered for Texas Peace Officers, Jailers, and Telecommunicators.

In today’s diverse communities, law enforcement officers, jailers, and telecommunicators often encounter individuals who speak little to no English. Understanding basic Spanish language skills is vital for ensuring the safety of officers, the individuals they interact with, and bystanders in potentially volatile situations. This course is designed to equip public safety professionals with practical Spanish language skills to recognize and respond to situations where language barriers could signal threats or require effective verbal control.

Through this course, participants will develop a working capability to understand key Spanish words and phrases that may indicate an intent to harm or escalate a situation. Additionally, the course provides instruction on how to use Spanish commands and phrases to control potentially dangerous individuals effectively. The materials also empower participants to communicate essential information and instructions clearly during interactions with Spanish-speaking individuals.

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:

   - Recognize and define critical Spanish words and phrases related to safety threats.
   - Speak key Spanish commands and phrases to de-escalate and manage high-risk situations.
   - Utilize course materials as a reference to enhance communication during their duties.

This essential training helps bridge the language gap, promoting safer and more effective interactions in the field, in detention settings, and during emergency communications. Whether you are new to the Spanish language or seeking to build confidence in your verbal skills, this course offers the tools and knowledge needed to enhance your professional capabilities.

Please note, the entire course, final exam(s), and course evaluation(s) must be completed in order to receive twenty-eight (28) hours of course credit.
