This is a Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) elective Defeating Deception in Interviews #2029 online training course offered for Texas Peace Officers, Jailers, and Telecommunicators. This course is designed to provide law enforcement officers with a structured foundation in interviewing principles, progressing from basic personal communication concepts to advanced interviewing methodologies and deception detection. Officers will develop the ability to conduct effective interviews with suspects, victims, and witnesses while understanding the legal, behavioral, and psychological factors that influence interview outcomes. Emphasis is placed on identifying verbal and non-verbal indicators of stress and deception, establishing behavioral baselines, and articulating objective reasons for credibility assessments. Upon completion, officers will be better equipped to move beyond instinct or “gut feelings” and clearly explain the observable behaviors and communication patterns that support their conclusions during an interview. The goal of this course is to transform instinctive impressions into defensible, observable, and articulable interview assessments. Please note, the entire course, final exam(s), and course evaluation(s) must be completed in order to receive four (4) hours of course credit.
