This is a Texas Commission on Law Enforcement elective Animal Abuse and Domestic Violence: What is the Connection? #2035 online training course offered for Texas Peace Officers, Jailers, and Telecommunicators. You, the First Responder, routinely respond to reports of domestic violence that may be difficult to substantiate. However, there are often signs that may be overlooked, such as suspected animal abuse, cruelty, or maltreatment. This course is designed to teach you to recognize the link between the complex issues of animal abuse and domestic violence, allowing you to perform your duties better and protect victims. You will learn to recognize the link between animal abuse and domestic violence, relevant case law, potential indicators of animal abuse as they relate to domestic violence, and the emotional and physical effects on the victims. Finally, you will learn what resources are available to assist your investigation. Please note, the entire course, final exam(s), and course evaluation(s) must be completed in order to receive two (2) hours of course credit. OSS Academy® typically reports 4 to 5 times each week [excluding U.S. Federal holidays]. We report your credit directly through TCLEDDS to the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement [TCOLE].
