This is an OSS Academy® Field Training Officer Duties online training course offered for Peace Officers, Jailers, and Telecommunicators.
Field Training Officer (FTO) training is an essential component of professional development within law enforcement and corrections agencies. Properly administered field training programs ensure that the professionalism of these fields continues to evolve, fostering a culture of accountability, adaptability, and excellence.
A well-trained FTO is the cornerstone of this process, bridging the gap between classroom instruction and on-the-job performance. Operating within a structured and functional field training program, FTOs are instrumental in helping new employees effectively apply theoretical knowledge in real-life, real-time environments.
This course provides the tools, techniques, and understanding necessary to develop competent FTOs who can mentor, evaluate, and guide new personnel through the critical early stages of their careers. By equipping FTOs with the skills to lead and teach, agencies enhance their operational effectiveness, improve employee retention, and ensure a consistent standard of service to their communities.
Please note, the entire course final exam(s), and course evaluation(s) must be completed in order to receive 15 hours of course credit.
