Overview

This is the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) elective Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities for Jailers  #2831 online training course for Texas Peace Officers, Jailers, and Telecommunicators.

Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities (IDD) is a term used to identify a wide variety of cognitive and developmental disabilities that impact intellectual and, at times, physical functions. Our course is intended to provide information to assist detention officers in identifying and interacting with inmates who live with these intellectual and developmental disabilities.

It is not necessary, or even appropriate, for detention officers to diagnose intellectual and developmental disabilities. What is important is to recognize the characteristics of IDD so that an effective approach can be used with each person who is detained within a detention facility.

Please note, the entire course, final exam(s), and course evaluation(s) must be completed in order to receive four(4) hours of course credit.
