Overview

This is the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) mandated Crisis Intervention Training Refresher #3843 online training course offered for Texas Peace Officers, Jailers, and Telecommunicators.

The Crisis Intervention Training Refresher is an 8-hour course designed for Texas peace officers to revisit and reinforce essential skills in crisis recognition, verbal de-escalation, officer safety, and community mental health resources. The course reviews core principles from the Crisis Intervention module (Chapter 29) of the TCOLE Basic Peace Officer Curriculum and provides updated strategies aligned with current best practices.

Course Objectives:
. Review signs and symptoms of mental illness and developmental disorders.
. Practice and reinforce de-escalation and active listening techniques.
. Discuss safety protocols for officers and individuals in crisis.
. Examine case studies involving mental health calls for service.
. Highlight community-based mental health resources and diversion options.
. Provide legal updates related to mental health crisis intervention.

Note:
This refresher does not satisfy the initial 40-hour CIT requirement mandated by the Texas Legislature. It is intended for continuing education and compliance with the Texas Police Chiefs Association Recognition Program standards.

Please note, the entire course, final exam(s), and course evaluation(s) must be completed in order to receive eight (8) hours of course credit.

TCOLE Reporting
