This is a Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) elective Elementary Education Outreach: Building Trust with Young Learners #4203 online training course offered for Texas Peace Officers, Jailers, and Telecommunicators. The Elementary Educational Outreach Training, proposed by Representative Jarvis Johnson and funded by the 88th Texas Legislature, has been designed to share best practices for peace officers to engage youth to promote positive interactions between children and law enforcement.
This dynamic course equips law enforcement professionals with the tools to engage elementary-aged children in a way that is age-appropriate, approachable, and rooted in trust. Whether you're a school resource officer or serving the broader community, this training bridges the gap between youth and law enforcement by focusing on human connection and positive presence. Participants will explore key principles of child development, strategies for building rapport, and effective methods of community engagement tailored to younger audiences. By the end of the course, officers will feel confident initiating meaningful interactions that foster safety, approachability, and long-term trust with the next generation. Learning Objectives: - Understand the developmental stages of elementary-aged children - Apply age-appropriate communication and engagement strategies - Build rapport through empathy, active listening, and community presence - Promote a positive and trustworthy image of law enforcement in school and non-school settings This course aligns with TCOLE guidelines and best practices for youth engagement in educational and community outreach settings.
Please note, the entire course, final exam(s), and course evaluation(s) must be completed in order to receive two(2) hours of course credit.
