This is an OSS Academy® Defensive & Distracted Driving for Law Enforcement online training course offered for Peace Officers, Jailers, and Telecommunicators. One of the major challenges faced by responsible local law enforcement executives and risk managers is losses caused during vehicle operations by employees in general, and law enforcement officers in particular. By far, the largest number of insurance claims filed against enforcement agencies is automobile claims, to say nothing of injuries and loss of life. We are not talking about damages and lives ruined during such high risk activities such as vehicle pursuits. Rather, our concern is for such activities as the … collision in the department parking lot, failure to yield the right of way, driving without emergency signaling equipment during response calls, intersection collisions, foul weather driving, and distracted driving activities. This course provides officers and staff with proactive knowledge and tactics applicable to everyday vehicle operations. The goal of this course is to reduce incidences of vehicular collisions, lives lost, time away from the job, losses resulting from damaged equipment, and ruined careers.
Please note, the entire course final exam(s), and course evaluation(s) must be completed in order to receive two (2) hours of course credit.
